Pearls and purses and phone cases, oh my!

Ugh, can we talk about how many cool accessory trends there are right now? Chokers, tassels, pearls…there are so many awesome trends to choose from, and while some of them have a bit of a festival fashion reputation (looking at you, big boho layers!) quite a few of them will actually work for work.

What I love about accessories is that they’re a small and simple way to stay on top of trends and breath life into old clothes, even if you’re strapped for cash. As a plus, they’re often a safe way to inject a bit of personality into your work outfits – tasteful and trendy jewelry can even make you look more professional and put-together. Just be sure to stick with clean lines and simple designs, especially if you work in an ultra-conservative office.

Here are the five accessories that will help you SLAY your fashion game at work

Modern Pearls

Can I just say that I freaking LOVE this trend? I never imagined myself to be much of a pearl girl when I was in college – probably because I associated pearl necklaces with high school band performances and Queen Elizabeth II – but I love how fashion-forward and polished these updated pearl necklaces look, especially with work clothes. I have a couple of necklaces like these and I wear them all. the. time.

A modern pearl necklace lends a youthful but sophisticated vibe to any outfit, making this trend perfect for even the most conservative offices. Whether you go extra edgy with silver and spikes or contemporary classic with gold and geo designs, you can’t go wrong.

Cool Cuffs

If you want to make a BIG impact with very little effort, a cool cuff is the way to go. Cuffs are especially great for work because they’re not going to make a ton of noise (like an arm party of bangles) and they look fierce with anything.

If you’re going for a more classic look, stick to solid or geometric bangles, but if you’re looking for something a little trendier, go crazy with quartz, pearls, mixed metals, or even clear acrylic.

Statement Earrings

If you find that you wear mostly neutrals or keep your fashion choices simple at work, a statement earring might be a good choice for you. And no matter what your style is – edgy but eloquent, girly glam, a bit boho – statement earrings are everywhere right now, so you’re bound to find something that’s totally your ish.

A word of caution, here – while you want these statement earrings to be the focus of your outfit, be sure to dial it back a notch for work. A shoulder grazing tassel earring is probably too much for the office, but a short tassel earring in a bright color should be okay, depending on your workplace. If your office is quite conservative, opt for something a little more subdued, like the quartz drop earrings or black and white geo earrings above.

Graphic Bags

A fun and funky bag should be at the front line battling your work-week blahs. What’s nice about bringing a graphic bag or wallet to work is that it helps inject a bit of color or pattern into your work wardrobe without you having to wear it all the time…you’ll probably be parking your bag at your cubicle for most of the day, anyway.

But, as always, there are caveats – I would personally stick to one bright color that wears well with other colors and neutrals (like cobalt blue, baby pink, or butter yellow, above) and more conservative patterns, like florals, geometrics, or painterly abstracts. There are tons of cute patterns that are popular right now, like fruit and tropical patterns, but you might want to save those for the weekend – they are probably too out there for even some casual offices.

Pretty Phone Cases

Nothing makes me happier than getting a brand new phone case, especially if that phone case is absolutely gorgeous. There are so many places to get phone cases now online, from Society6 to Etsy to Casetify, and there are tons of patterns that are trending right now that perfectly loan themselves to a cool phone case, like marble, geo patterns, or watercolors.

Just try to avoid statement phone cases – while I absolutely adore statement anything for casual or weekend wear, it will most likely not be appropriate for work, or project that cool and fun but professional vibe I know you’re shooting for.
