Today’s post is dedicated to one of the most classic pieces of clothing ever created, with a fun new twist. The plaid flannel shirt is crazy versatile: It can allow you to channel Little House on the Prairie, Nirvana, or Alexander McQueen with a few accessory swaps.

Today, we’re switching up the classic plaid shirt slightly, showing you how to style an extra long flannel plaid shirt for class and a night out.

Long Plaid Top: Class

Start with a long, dress-length plaid shirt. (Bonus: You can wear this as a long top or button it up and wear it as a dress.) Unbutton it and wear it with black denim shorts and a modern lace-up tee. Add low heeled booties for those long walks across campus, then top the look off with a seasonally appropriate fedora.

Long Plaid Top: Night Out

“Flannel shirt” is not a phrase that necessarily screams night out on the town. However, it’s 2016, and there’s nothing cooler than wearing something a little unexpected.

For this look, I paired the long shirt with a ’90s throwback Calvin Klein logo tee, an edgy leather skirt, and some lace-up platform heels. Of course, a bag is an essential for a night out and this studded cross-body is functional and a little bit glam.

And, of course, you’re never fully dressed without a smile – add some red lipstick to draw attention to yours. The bright red will add some color to the look and provides a final touch of glam.
