Emmy Viewing Party Looks Inspired by Your Favorite Shows
Rep your favorite nominee while watching tonight’s awards!
As my fellow TV nuts know, tonight is television’s biggest night, the Emmys! I’m so pumped to watch Jimmy Kimmel host and to see who takes home the top prizes.
Here at CF, we love to draw inspiration from our favorite TV characters. So if you’re watching the awards with family or friends — or heck, even alone — why not turn the even into a bit of a costume party? Order a pizza, pop some corn, pull up a chair, and have everyone dress as their favorite silver-screen character, nominated or not.
Whether you’re planning such a viewing party or just want to nod to your fave nominees in this week’s OOTDs, I’ve got three outfit ideas inspired by TV’s top ladies. And the winner is…
How to Get Away With Murder
Will Viola Davis take home her second Best Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her portrayal of Annalise Keating? I’m personally hoping so — and let’s be real, Murder‘s second season was even better than its first. If you’re rooting for Viola, too, channel her boss b*tch character in a sharp and sexy ensemble.
Annalise’s key pieces are solid-colored, well-tailored sheath dresses, structured bags, and major statement necklaces. (I think this bold-yet-classic tortoiseshell one would be right up her alley.) Finish the look with sleek heels.
If this look seems inferior to your PJs for curling up to watch an awards show (and Annalise’s luxe, silk robes weren’t exactly on your college packing list), then rock this look to your next internship to leave an, ahem, killer impression.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Kimmy Schmidt’s style is all about fun, loud, kid-at-heart colors, patterns, and details, and is made up of pieces you probably already have in your closet. If you’re pulling for Ellie Kemper to win Best Actress in a Comedy Series, put together a look inspired by her character Kimmy’s whimsical wardrobe.
Colored skinnies and Converse are musts, as is a cute cardi. There should definitely be at least one print in the look, but more is even better. While the outfit below would totally work if the sweater were Kimmy’s signature yellow, I love the mixed prints even more. Finish with a backpack — the must-have item for Kimmy and college girls alike. Then kick up your kicks, pour some pinot noir (link NSFW), and enjoy the show.

While I haven’t yet gotten a chance to watch Empire, I am fully aware that Best Actress in a Drama nominee Taraji P. Henson’s character, boss lady Cookie Lyon, has become one of the ultimate TV style icons.
Own your viewing party (or any party, for that matter) in a cool animal print dress. Add a chic jacket (bonus points for a cape) and sexy shoes, and make sure there’s a pop of color in there somewhere. Finally, finish the fierce look with luxe accessories like statement jewelry and a quilted bag, and you’re ready to rule the roost like Cookie.
