Let’s Talk Fashion

Who or what inspires your style? “It’s a combination of modern Boston city architecture – because it’s super minimalist and has a lot of neutral colors – but it’s still very fresh. I also really like European bloggers because they have a tendency to wear less denim.”

Where do you like to shop? “My favorite place is The Garment District in Cambridge. I also [shop at] Madewell and Urban Outfitters for my casual clothes.”

How would you describe your sense of style? “I think it’s a little bit masculine. I don’t like to wear [dresses] even though I did as a kid. Now that I have to move around a lot more, I tend to wear more pants because they are a little more utilitarian.”

Why did you choose this particular outfit? “One: because it’s comfortable. Denim and t-shirts are really easy to throw on. Now that I work in an office, I have a lot of blazers and I like to incorporate them into my everyday wear.”

What fashion advice would you give to other students looking to improve their style? “I think you should worry less about what people tell you… even though I’m curvy, I like to wear denim shorts and [shift] dresses. I just don’t worry about those rules.”

What are your favorite trends right now? “I think bandanas are my favorite right now because it’s summertime and [they are] a good compromise to scarves.”

Do you have any favorite fashion designers? If so, who and why? Betsey Johnson is one of my favorites and Jenna Lyons from J. Crew is also another favorite because she’s really good at practical wear that is still fun.”

What do you do for fun? Do you have any unique interests or hobbies? “Definitely photography and also art museums because they have lots of open space and so much to look at. It’s never boring even when I’m by myself.”

If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be and why? “Probably Debbie Harry’s, even now at [71] she still wears the neatest things and she is someone else who doesn’t follow the rules.”

Elements of Liz’s Outfit

1. Band Tee

Liz paired her thrifted Fleetwood Mac tee with a sharp white blazer from Ann Taylor, but you could wear one with denim joggers or faux leather leggings. It’s a great throw-on piece that has some edge and makes a statement.

2. Bandana

Liz hit the mark with this summer scarf alternative. You don’t have to dig out your old Girl Scout bandana because these are everywhere – you can find a cool bandana cheaply at nearly any store. Bandanas come in so many fun colors and patterns now that there is bound to be one you love.

3. The Bag

This black tote bag will take you from school to work in a flash. This particular one is reversible, with a light brown leather on one side and black on the other. Talk about versatile!
