If there was an award for Best Accessorizing, Sarah would win.

The very first thing that I noticed about Sarah’s outfit was her pink Grumpy Cat skirt. How could I possibly pass her by without asking about it? Even better, the more pictures I took, the more cute characters I found in her outfit.

From the fluffy puffs to her ice cream pins, every piece of Sarah’s look speaks a little bit about her and what she loves. It is refreshing to see a style so playful and dreamy during this bitter cold snap.

Let’s Talk Fashion

Who or what inspires your style? “Anything and everything, I guess! I’m very open to anything I find, so it’s hard to say any one thing or person. I do look towards Korean and Japanese fashions. I feel like they really have fun with [fashion] and I admire that.”

Where do you like to shop? “Mostly thrift stores like Salvation Army. I like giving old clothes [a] new life and [recycling] them in a way. I try very hard not to shop huge chains anymore because the majority use unethical practices. I try to give my business to smaller designers and stores because that’s going to be me some day.”

How would you describe your sense of style? “I wear what makes me happy! Eclectic is probably the best word. If I see something and it makes me smile or laugh, then I wear it. I like pastels and things with humorous prints or patterns – like cats – because it’s what I want to see more of: happy things in the world. Other people describe my style as dreamy which I think is fitting because I love soft, fluffy, and comfortable fabrics.”

Why did you choose this particular outfit? “It made me laugh and it was comfortable.”

What fashion advice would you give to other students looking to improve their style? “Never ever give a crap about what other people think or wear. You do you and be free because fashion is 500% confidence.”

What are your favorite trends right now? “I’m super into the patch and enamel pin thing. I think it’s a great way to bring art and humor into your everyday look. Also, leotards are great because they stay perfectly tucked in… but [they] make peeing 10 times more difficult.”

What do you do for fun – do you have any unique hobbies or interests? “I enjoy reading, long walks on the beach, piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain… you know, the usual! I’m just kidding. I like spending time with my friends and family. I also love just doing nothing and watching TV because it’s rare for me now. I’m an old woman so I love the Food Network and HGTV for those days. I’m into sewing, sketching, drawing, [and] anything creative. Lately I’ve been knitting a blanket. I also collect a few odd things like Troll Dolls.”

If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be and why? “Baddie Winkle! She and I have very similar aesthetics and she’s sponsored by all my favorite brands like Lazy Oaf. Plus, she’s a badass old woman.”

Do you have a favorite fashion designer? “Myself! Just kidding. I really like Lazy Oaf and Miu Miu if we’re talking about higher end and unaffordable.”

Elements of Sarah’s Outfit

1. Jean Jacket + Pins & Patches

I’ve been seeing personalized jean jackets everywhere lately. Distressed, embroidered, covered in pins, oversized, fitted – there is a unique jean jacket out there for everyone! Sarah found this steal of a jacket for $5 at Goodwill. No one else will ever have a jacket just like Sarah’s… some of her pins are from thrift shops and others are handmade.

2. Pink Scarf

My favorite way to accessorize is to toss on a scarf. Sarah’s scarf is a sweet baby pink, providing the perfect contrast to her industrial denim jacket. For a little added warmth and a whole lot of extra style, Sarah’s scarf checks all the boxes.

Now we want to know what you think!
