Myrtle Beach is the epicenter of South Carolina’s tourism industry and it’s not hard to see why. The area boasts more than 60 miles of uninterrupted Grand Strand beachfront with seafood restaurants, boutiques, outlet malls, theme parks, water parks, golf courses, obstacle courses, and other attractions located within the city limits. Sometimes referred to as “American’s Favorite Playground“, it’s clear that Myrtle Beach is much more than just a beach city.
Myrtle Beach attracts 14.6 million visitors annually, so chances are when you’re visiting, you’re more likely to run into tourists than people that live locally. So visiting is a great chance to practice meeting new people from all over the world!
So what are the locals currently wearing in one of the biggest vacation spots in America? Here are two of the biggest trends in the Surfside City!
Matching Two-Piece Beachwear
Myrtle Beach resident & stylist, Hannah Young, demonstrates the local trend of wearing bright and flirty matching two-piece beachwear!
With so many things to do in and out of the water, it’s best to be prepared for any spontaneous activity you might stumble upon during your day. You can boogie board on the beach during the morning and then throw on your two-piece set for lunch at a nearby fast-casual seafood stand and then, later on, hit up some rides on the boardwalk.
If you’re up for the drive to North Myrtle Beach, I would suggest checking out Shake Wake Park. Shake Wake Park hosts a giant inflatable obstacle course floating on a freshwater lake and cable wakeboarding. This was my absolute favorite activity during my whole trip to Myrtle Beach.

Asos has hundreds of beachy co-ord sets to choose from on their website that you can wear together, mix and match, or wear individually. (The options are endless!)
For the look above, I chose the Topical Jersey Tank Set from Asos because it had a cool sporty vibe to it. Since the beachwear set has such a bold pattern, I paired it with solid colored pieces.
To keep the sporty element of the outfit going, I chose a pastel pink old-school Adidas backpack that will set you apart from the endless sea of woven baskets you will likely see on the beachfront. Lastly, I paired the look with metallic slide sandals and ombre aviator sunglasses to add a touch of glamour.
A Throwback to the ’70s
Last week, we learned that the ladies in Milwaukee are embracing style from the ’90s, but the ladies from Myrtle Beach appreciate style from an earlier time.
Breana, local fashion Instagrammer and blogger, poses in a multitude of retro-turned-modern ’70s looks. If you scroll through her Instagram, you’ll find denim on denim, corduroy overalls, bandana neck-ties, a Bo Derek one-piece halter swimsuit, and patchwork jeans.

Before buying retro-style pieces from big-name retailers, I suggest checking out thrift shops or vintage boutiques or even your mom’s boxes of old clothes that have been hiding in the attic. This will save you money and also be more authentic than whatever Forever 21 deems retro.
I’ve also noticed that some retro items are harder to find and when you do find them they’re sold at a markup. For example, I tried searching for an interesting pair of bell bottoms but the only mass-produced ones I could find were from Revice Denim and are a bit of a splurge.
The outfit above parallels Breana’s record store look. The turtleneck tank top comes from Urban Outfitters in dark red, blush, or black but I chose blush since it looks fabulous with the light wash two-tone bell bottoms. Gold accessories complement the outfit, from the gold chain necklace to the gold colored panel on Zara’s two-toned tote. Add on some strappy black platform sandals to lengthen your legs and keep the bell bottom jeans from dragging.
