Beyond confused about what to wear for each day of recruitment? Tired of spending hours deciding if that dress is “sorority-appropriate”? Read on!

Last time, I shared my ultimate guide to joining a sorority. If you’ve decided sorority life is for you, the next step is to go through recruitment, also known as “rush week.”

Sorority recruitment is one of the most confusing events ever, especially when it comes to what to wear. There is hardly any guidance regarding the dress code. Before I went through it, I probably questioned at least 10 different sorority girls about what was “acceptable” to wear.

To spare you stress and confusion, I am going to break down what’s “hot” and what’s “not” for each day of sorority recruitment, with an outfit idea for each! Read on for some sorority rush outfits to copy yourself:

Day 1: Casual but Not So Casual that You Look Like You Just Rolled Out of Bed on that Awful First Day of Recruitment… Even Though You Did

Products: Co-ord Set – Boohoo, Earrings – J.Crew Factory, Crossbody – Urban Outfitters, Espadrilles – Nordstrom

Every college’s sorority recruitment is different when it comes to what you should wear on the first day of rush. Some schools provide each girl with a recruitment t-shirt to match their own jeans, shorts, skort, or skirt. At my school, we were told to wear a generic “casual” outfit…not much help.

I ended up wearing a black and white checkered short and shirt two piece set. This outfit helped me stand out from the plethora of denim and more denim and even more denim. The best advice I can give you is to dress to stand out (in a good, relatively tame way… please no avant-garde army pants)! This look, with a two-piece set, crossbody, and casual espadrilles, would work. Just be sure that your look isn’t too revealing and you should be set.

Day 2: Still “Casual” but Think “Third Date Going to that New Sushi Restaurant Kind of Outfit”

Products: Romper – Asos, Sandals – Steven by Steve Madden, Necklace – Forever 21, Earrings – Forever 21

After you make it through Day 1, you’ll see why I say you should dress to “stand out.” EVERYONE dresses the same. For Day 2, I made it my goal to push the sorority fashion limits and look super trendy. I wore a pleated white skort from Club Monaco with a light pink shirt from Urban Outfitters. My shoes were platform gladiator sandals by Steve Madden.

Above is an example of a perfect Day 2 outfit. A good rule to follow is to keep your outfit casual, but cute enough to wear on a date. A romper is less expected than a dress, while cool girl jewelry shows off your personality. I went with fairly basic sandals in this look, but you could totally swap them for something bolder if you wanted.

Day 3: Bring On the Wedges and Sore Feet

Products: Romper – Asos, Wedges – Forever 21 , Necklace – Topshop, Ear Cuff – Topshop, Ring – Topshop

Two days down, more to go. Thankfully, you’re almost done. Unfortunately, your feet will hate you these next few days.

The third day is what I would like to call “business casual,” at least as far as sorority recruitment wear goes. (Don’t wear this exact outfit to an internship, obviously.) On this day, I pulled out my BCBG grey snakeskin heeled booties (aka feet killers) and paired a nude pink skort/romper with them. I made my romper look more polished by pairing it with a blazer.

Do not overdo it on this day. Instead, step it up from Day 2, wear a statement piece in your outfit (in the outfit above, the statement piece is the gold chain necklace) and plan to get fancier tomorrow. Also, Day 3 is the day when you start wearing wedges and even casual heels (sorry feet!). These give off a dressier vibe.

Day 4: DO NOT WEAR YOUR SENIOR YEAR PROM DRESS ON THIS DAY!

Products: Dress – Saks Off 5th, Heels – Forever 21, Necklace – Forever 21, Earrings – Forever 21

It’s the final and most important day of recruitment, not to mention the fanciest! When they say, “Wear a modest cocktail dress on this day,” they do NOT mean your prom dress. As gorgeous as that sequined mermaid gown might’ve looked in the school gym, it is WAY overboard for recruitment.

Don’t get me wrong, you do want to look nice and dress up on this day. In the outfit set above, the white cocktail dress is a perfect mix of stylish and modest. You aren’t revealing too much cleavage or too much leg. Pretend this is your school graduation set at a church!

As I mentioned before, you always want a statement piece. I paired a bold necklace with geometric earrings to draw attention to the face. Never let a dress take away from your natural beauty!
