Show your self-love through your style.

Welcome back to Underrated Icons, a column that looks at the styles of icons past and present, specifically icons that don’t always get the credit they deserve.

In last week’s column, we talked about someone who achieved a romantic “happily-ever-after” in her life. This week we’re celebrating someone who embodies self-love and self-empowerment, style icon Emily Ratajkowski.

Emily’s big break was in Robin Thicke’s controversial “Blurred Lines” music video, but since then, her modeling career has been soaring, and she has appeared in several films. Even cooler, Emily is an activist and essayist advocating for sex-positive feminism and body positivity.

Here’s how to insert Emily’s own self-confidence into your wardrobe.

Sexy Street Style

Products: Dress – ASOS, Boots – JCPenney, Bag – Forever 21, Glasses – Eye Buy Direct, Lip Gloss – Target

We don’t all have plans this Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress up anyway! Inspired by this look, a little black dress is always chic and pairing it with trendy over-the-knee boots is effortlessly sexy, and also makes your legs look miles long. A mustard bag adds a pop of eye-catching color to your outfit. Top it off with glasses (if you need ’em), nude lip gloss, and windswept hair for that model-off-duty feel.

Girly Romance

Products: Dress – Mango, Jacket – Boohoo, Sneakers – Macy’s, Bag – Kohl’s

A key part of Emily’s style is mixing glamorous pieces with sneakers. For a girlier, more feminine look, pair a swingy pink dress with classic white Keds for maximum cuteness and comfort. Top it off with a faux suede biker jacket for some edge and to incorporate one of Emily’s favorite casual pieces. Because this look doesn’t require a lot of pieces, wear a bag in an unexpected color, like this lilac crossbody from Kohl’s, to amplify it.

Sleek and Sexy

Products: Top – H&M, Skirt – Macy’s, Heels – Charlotte Russe, Clutch – Lord & Taylor, Contour Kit – Belk, Bracelet – Nordstrom

Whether or not you have anything planned for Valentine’s, this glamorous look is great for any night out. It’s bold and sexy without being too overt – not that there’s anything wrong with that! Own your body in a black crop top, slit pencil skirt, and metallic cage heels. Accessorize with a classic black clutch and a Kate Spade gold bangle. Use a contour kit to get killer cheekbones like Emily’s, and wear your hair up in a bun to show them off.

What do you think?

Are you a fan of Emily’s? Do you agree with her form of feminism? And as always, feel free to make requests on who you want to see in covered in the future down in the comments!
