Professor Layton is one of the most puzzling game series on the market. Over the years, I’ve spent hours of my time on the puzzles from this headache-inducing game. And I’m not even upset about it. However, this is especially after going through these very relatable Reddit forums and seeing questions like:

“Is it just me or are the Professor Layton games hard?”

“Am I too stupid for the Professor Layton games?”

Like the disgruntled players within this forums, I, too, felt “too stupid” for the misadventures of Layton and his protégé, Luke. The game is essentially a click-and-point explorative narrative pieced together by a collection of mind-boggling puzzles. The narratives of the game tend not to overarch one another, but they each make for an interesting adventure.

Oh, and did I mention that there are delightfully animated cut-scenes in the game as well? And with delightful animation comes delightfully inspired outfits for posts like this one. On this edition of Video Game Fashion, we’re going to be drawing inspo from the likes of Professor Layton and his Mystery Gang.

Professor Layton

Professor Hershel Layton is the top hat-wearing titular protagonist of the series. Besides drinking tea and solving puzzles, he is an actual professor at London’s Gressenheller University.

This Layton-inspired look begins with a pair of fringe jeans and an orange, off-the-shoulder top. Throw in a pair of faux leather, pointed toe boots and a structured black coat to add a little #girlboss into Layton’s professional demeanor. Instead of the professor’s classic top hat, freshen things up with one of fall’s accessory trends, the beret.

Luke

Luke is the self-proclaimed apprentice of Professor Layton. He’s spunky, fierce and loves the color blue, so I decided to channel that in this funky outfit set, beginning with a blue, wrinkled sleeve jumper. Like Layton, Luke is never seen without his hat, so I threw in a matching blue baseball cap. Finish the look off with a pair of carefree black culottes and a pair of Mary Jane flats.

Flora Reinhold

Flora Reinhold is the young girl that accompanies Luke and Layton on their adventures. Her style is quite simple and straightforward: dainty and sweet, just like her personality. She wears an orange dress with a white shirt underneath, so I went for just that with this A-Line orange dress layered over a white, button-up top. To tie everything together, I paired these floral booties with ruffled, white socks.

What do you think?

Do you think that the Layton games are hard? Which of the outfits are you favorite? And most importantly, which of the games are your favorite? Let me know in the comments.
