What I Wore: First Day of College

Arguably the most fashion focused day on campus.

In case you’re new here, the What I Wore series is about my personal experiences as a college freshman through fashion. Follow me and my outfits on this crazy, new ride as I register for classes, rush, and try to figure out college in general!

So much has changed since I’ve last posted. I am now an official college student after surviving my first week of classes!

To be perfectly honest, I had a predetermined image of what college would be like in my mind (which turned out to be completely false). This has been one of the craziest, scariest weeks of my lifebut also one of my best

I’ve been coping with homesickness and homework all week, but I also recognize I am on a new journey. I am starting to become my own person and it feels extraordinary. I am beginning to define my own sense of self and what I like. And, of course, I had to start this new journey out with the perfect back-to-school outfit.

Let me just tell y’all: I loved this outfit. I got so many compliments on my maxi dress! I felt it was an unexpected choice in a sea of leggings (and NOTHING against leggings, they’re incredible). The tiny heel was totally comfortable to walk long distances in, and they added a little statement to the outfit. I felt like a princess (or a slightly over-excited, over-dressed freshman) all day.

Ladies, I debated long and hard about whether I should go the backpack or tote route. My Madewell leather tote has been one of my go-tos since purchasing it three years ago, and I desperately wanted to carry it around campus. On the other hand, the backpack seemed like a more conventional route.

My solution? Bring both a tote and a backpack. Some days you’ll only have two classes, where other days you need a backpack to handle the capacity of four classes. Tote bags are easier to pair with a dress, so I plan my ‘dress days’ according to my class schedule. For those days when you have three plus classes back-to-back, make sure you have a cute and functional backpack.

Now for my trusty accessories! My life is essentially in my planner. My class schedule, event schedule, and homework due dates all reside within the pages of my planner. I highly recommend investing in a one— if you haven’t already, be sure to check out CF’s top picks for this year.

It is essential to carry a water bottle during your long class days. I’m not a huge fan of conventional water bottles, so I opted for this darling Disney Starbucks cup I bought at Disney World. I’m a huge Starbucks and Disney fan, so I absolutely love carrying this cup around campus. Lucky enough, you don’t have to go to Disney World to buy this cup— you can find it on Amazon!
