If you’re a homebody like me, you need these ideas.

Ahh, yes: Fall weather is here! It’s so nice and refreshing to feel the cold, crisp air when you walk out the door — that is, until you realize that it’s, well, cold. Wouldn’t you love a nice big fireplace in your room for those days? I would, too, but alas we’ll have to get cozy another way.

Below, I’ve compiled some simple and inexpensive ways to make your room cozy for fall and ready for plenty of snuggle sessions. Plus, it’s another excuse to stay in and watch Netflix (or browse CF)!

1. Get Some Throw Blankets

Product info: Urban Outfitters

This is one of the simplest ways to make your space cozy! I currently have three folded throws sitting at the edge of my bed. They’re all different textures and colors to make my bedding look a little more chic.

As a bonus, I love to bring my throws from room to room in my apartment. My roommates find them all over the house (and use them too)! I use throw blankets so much that they become a part of my everyday outfit around the house. (You know you’ve rocked a blanket cape too; don’t deny it.)

Nothing says cozy like snuggling up under a big, soft blanket (or two or three). Bliss!

2. Fall Flowers

You can go to the store for these, or even grab some friends and make it into a little adventure. Go ‘hunting’ for fall flowers or even beautiful branches. Look for typical fall colors like red, yellow, orange, and white. Stick them into a vase next to your bed and you’ve got a hint of the season to greet you every morning.

3. Twinkle Lights

My room!

Go to your parents’ garage or storage space and I’m sure you’ll find a string of these laying around. If not, you need to invest in some. They are absolutely adorable and give your room a nice ambiance! I have mine framing my window (as you can see in the picture above).

I like to turn mine on at the end of the night when I’m winding down. It totally relaxes me. They’re whimsical and soooo dreamy. Hang them down your drapes, around your headboard, line them around the ceiling, or even place them in a zig-zag pattern with pictures clipped on. (See our article on using string lights in your dorm room for tips!) The possibilities are endless.

4. Switch Up Your Bedding

Product info: Ikea

Now we all know fall is the time of year when it starts to get chilly. When cold ngiths hit, that lightweight blanket you used for summer won’t do you any good!

Pro tip: Store your summer duvet and replace it with something a little more warm and thick, like a faux down comforter. I’ve had my favorite winter comforter for years and never wake up in the middle of the night shivering.

Feeling ultra fancy? You could even invest in flannel sheets! I love these cute ones from Target that come in Twin XL.

5. DIY Decor

I am ALWAYS looking for an excuse to DIY! Big/little reveal? DIY. Friend’s birthday? DIY. New season and you need new decor? You guessed it: DIY!

Here are some easy fall decor DIY projects for those of you who like to get creative:

6. Fall Scented Candles

I mean…did you really think you would read an entire list of fall decorating ideas without seeing candles on here?

If you need candle inspiration, we listed a few of our favorite fall candles from Bath and Body Works a few weeks back, but Yankee Candle and Target have amazing ones in seasonal scents, too. (Grab some pumpkin ones for now and some pine ones for December!)

7. Add Some Faux Fur to Your Space

Product info: Urban Outfitters

This is a really great idea if you have wooden or tile floors in your room…brrrrr. And even if you don’t, it’s still a cute and homey thing to do. I have a faux fur rug right next to my bed and I love to wake up and feel the softness of it next to my feet!

Alternatively, you could also go for a faux fur blanket to add to your bed, or a faux fur throw to put on your desk chair for coziness while you work.

Product-wise, Ikea has lovely mini faux sheepskins for under $15 and Target has tons of blankets perfect for cozying up.

So welcoming. So soft. So right.
