Because your invite obviously just got lost in the mail.

With the Golden Globes behind us and the SAGs happening this weekend, awards season is officially in full swing. Of course, the best part of any awards show is the red carpet, during which you get to ooh and ahh over every star’s look.

And admit it: even if you’ve never wanted to be a celeb, you’ve definitely fantasized about getting to rock a couture red carpet look.

That’s why I’ve styled an outfit befitting each of the upcoming major awards shows (Grammys, SAGs, Oscars) that I think any of you college fashionistas could rock. Plus, the pieces in these sets are way more affordable than your typical red carpet fare, just in case you have a real-life special event coming up.

Go ahead, daydream away.  Here’s what to wear…

As a music star

At music awards shows like the Grammys, the dress code is flexible. You can wear a gown or jumpsuit, but a metallic mini totally works, too.

Take a cue from Grammy-winner Taylor Swift and pair a cool-hued dress with pink pumps that pop. And don’t shy away from adding more sparkle. Make a mini more formal with major earrings and a glitzy clutch. Now, go snag that Album of the Year trophy!

As part of a hit TV show ensemble

Product info: Jumpsuit-Rent the Runway, Heels-Boohoo, Bangles-Macy’s, Earrings-Miss Selfridge, Lipstick-Bloomingdale’s.

The SAGs are a fun, underappreciated awards show that I love for several reasons: first, all the awards are for acting (in both TV and movies!) so you don’t have to sit through snooze-worthy categories like sound-mixing; second, ensembles can win awards together so you get to see lots of your fave performers win; and third and most importantly, the fashion is just as fun as the show.

While the Oscars seem more serious, the SAG red carpet is about taking quirky and edgy risks, so just go for it with a fabulous sequin jumpsuit (dang, would I love to wear this). Add coordinating jewels and a minimal shoe, then swipe on a statement lip for a pop of color. Best dressed list, here you come.

As the star of the year’s best film

Product info: Gown-Rent the Runway, Heels-JustFab, Clutch-John Lewis, Earrings-Lord & Taylor, Rings (top)-Accessorize, Rings (bottom)-Belk, Nail polish-Macy’s.

And now the moment you’ve been waiting for, the answer to the question you’ve been asking this whole post. What should you wear to win Best Actress? IMHO, this patterned, embellished, illusion-panel gown is just the thing.

Because of this gown’s stunning details and color, you’ll want to coordinate your accessories perfectly. Major earrings in the same shade as the embellishment are the only jewels you really need, unless you want to add a mix of rings for a cool-girl touch. Keep it classic with black pumps, then clutch your Oscar in neutral-metallic-manicured hands.

What do you think?

Which awards show is your fave? Which would you most like to attend? And more importantly, what would you wear? Let me know in the comments!
