Rihanna is one of the biggest queens and icons of the music industry, and now she’s extended that reach into makeup with her incredible makeup line.

The launch of Fenty Beauty has changed the makeup makeup game for good and has challenged the way current brands produce and present products to customers.

The brand’s success is unprecedented. Celebrity-created makeup brands have a habit of underperforming compared to more popular brands, but Fenty Beauty is a huge exception to this rule.

Rihanna’s dedication to her makeup line made every product incredible in its own way, and this gives me hope that makeup companies will look to this brand as an example of how they should carry forward their own brands in the future.

Without further ado, today I’m going to review Rihanna’s much-talked-about Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation, the hallmark product of the Fenty Brand. Let’s get into it.

Packaging and Price:

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation in Shade 120 | Sephora

This foundation comes in a stunning sleek bottle with a fantastic pump. It just disperses the perfect amount of product. You can also clearly see the foundation color inside, which is shockingly rarer than you might expect.

Side note: the rest of Rihanna’s beauty range is packaged in the ever-so-popular shade called millennial pink. My heart wants everything.

Price-wise, the product comes in at $34, which is mid-range for a higher end foundation. That being said, I do think it’s worth every penny. The formula and finish, which I’ll get to soon, more than justifies this cost.

Color Range:

Shade Comparison (L to R): Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation in 120 | L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation in 102 | Revlon Colorstay Foundation in 150 | The Ordinary Coverage Foundation in 1.1N | Wet N Wild Photofocus Foundation in Porcelain

The color range is the standout feature of this entire brand. Fenty Beauty has a whopping 40 shade foundation range. Despite the fact that other brands now have foundation ranges of 20+ shades, many fall short in including the more extreme shades on the spectrum

For example, the fairest shades of most foundation ranges rarely go paler than Maybelline’s Fit Me Foundation in 110, while the darkest shades don’t stray far beyond the Revlon Colorstay Foundation in 450.

Have no fear, Fenty Beauty has you covered. The shades are so well-chosen and tackle the extreme ends of the spectrum while including the perfect shades in the middle of this range. Props to you, girl for making such an inclusive foundation range.

One thing to keep in mind is that the foundation oxidizes (a.k.a. gets darker) as it dries. Make sure you go up at least one shade, because this puppy becomes about 1-2 shades darker. Second, the neutral shades tend to run slightly more pink than what you’d anticipate for a neutral undertone foundation. Just things to keep in mind.

Wear and Longevity:

Light layer of the Fenty Beauty Foundation in 120

This foundation dries quickly, so the best plan is to work in small sections. I worked on my face in four main areas (each cheek, forehead, and chin), and fully blended foundation onto one area before moving to the next.

With a light layer (I prefer my natural skin to show through a bit), my skin looked naturally flawless and had a decent glow. The formula is flexible in that you can have lighter, natural looks like mine or build up the product for higher coverage and more glamorous events.

Overall, my skin looked stunning with just a light layer. I haven’t been this impressed by a new foundation in a long time.

Face to Neck Swatch (just for funsies)

Longevity-wise, this foundation stood the test of the day fairly well. Since it dries down to a powdery soft and thin finish, it was able to stay on longer and wear off more evenly. Slow clapping for this product right here. Super impressed.
