Business casual meets campus cute.

I caught Danielle on campus coming back from work. Her look was the perfect mix of professional and casual — AKA ideal for college students. Sporting such up-to-date pieces while keeping her look professional shows that Danielle sure knows her business (pun intended).

Let’s Talk Fashion

Who or what inspires your style? “Usually the setting is what really influences my style. I think business casual is a good look that normally can be worn anywhere, not just [in] the workplace.”

Where do you like to shop? “Usually Target is my go-to, but also Earthbound Trading Co. It’s where you can find me.”

How would you describe your sense of style? “I can normally be found in comfortable clothes which [can include] a big sweater or t-shirt, pants, and cute shoes. The key is they have to match.”

Why did you choose this particular outfit? “I chose this outfit because it’s business casual and modest. It makes me look put-together and makes me feel confident.”

What fashion advice would you give other students looking to improve their style? “It’s not hard to look put-together. You just have to lay out your clothes at night or wake up early and put in maybe 5 minutes to put together a business casual outfit ready for any place.”

What are your favorite trends right now? “My favorite [trend] right now would have to be women not being body shamed into covering their bodies. It’s becoming more acceptable for women to show more and be sexy, and although it might not be appropriate for a workplace, it’s still a positive trend.”

Do you have any favorite fashion designers? If so, who? Calvin Klein because their dresses fit me well and are extremely comfortable. They can make anyone look like they own the office. While they are pricey, [their pieces] can last a long time, especially if you take care of them.”

What do you do for fun – do you have any unique hobbies or interests? “I like to read and love to eat food. I usually like to go to concerts and see my favorite bands when they play.”

If you could raid anyone’s closet who would it be and why? “A Beverly [Hills] housewife, because they have some of the best clothes on the planet and they are extremely fashionable. [Also, the clothes are] kept in pristine condition.”

Elements of Danielle’s Outfit

1) Lace-up Booties

Danielle chose to wear these taupe lace-up booties which are an easy balance of casual and formal. They add a little height to her look without being over-the-top and they look fantastic with cuffed jeans.

2) Cuffed Jeans

A pair of fitted, dark wash jeans are an obvious wardrobe staple. In this ensemble, Danielle balances her loose cardigan with tight skinny jeans. The balance adds a dash of sophistication and shows that you can make a casual piece like denim work in a professional setting. (Just make sure your office dress code allows jeans!)

3) Brown Cardigan

Danielle makes it easy to transition from work to school with this cardigan from Earthbound. Although it does not always fit a business dress code (again, check with your workplace), its soft texture can be the perfect way to add a little comfort before and after work.

4) Delicate Necklace

This necklace from Anthropologie is a lovely staple piece. Its symmetrical beads are a classy touch and it stand out against the plain black top.

5) Silver Rings

Although Danielle’s necklace stole the show, I couldn’t overlook the metal on her hands. Daring yet classy, her rings show her cool personality. She got a couple of them on Amazon and some even from her travels in Greece.
