Let’s Talk Fashion
Who or what inspires your style? “Myself. This is just how [I dress]. This [is] my style: comfortable and simple. I don’t like too many decorations. Just simple and comfortable.”
Where do you like to shop? “Usually I don’t do a lot of shopping but most of my clothes come from UNIQLO.”
How would you describe your sense of style? “Simple, comfy, clean.”
Why did you choose this particular outfit? “To be honest with you, all my outfits are similar… just different colors of things!”
What fashion advice would you give to other students looking to improve their style? “I think every person has their own style and they should pick what fits them best [and] what can bring out their [personality]. It depends on who the person is and what style fits them. Like me, I just like simple and comfortable because that’s what matters to me.”
What are your favorite fashion trends right now? “To be honest I don’t pay too much [attention to trends]. I don’t know too much about them. I don’t follow fashion trends.”
Do you have any favorite fashion designers? If so, who? “For years, my store has been UNIQLO. Their [styles can easily be put together] with anything. Their style is very simple [and] clean, just different colors.”
What do you do for fun – do you have any unique hobbies or interests? “I like music so I like to play the piano. I also like to sing. I’m taking voice lessons. I like writing Chinese calligraphy. I also like yoga and reading. Those inspire the way I dress.”
If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be and why? “Since I don’t really follow the fashion [trends and] I read [the] news, I think I would shop in Ivanka Trump’s closet.”
Elements of Xiaoqian’s Outfit
1. Jade Hierloom Necklace
Xiaoqian’s grandmother passed down this charming jade necklace to her. Oftentimes we treasure family heirlooms and don’t often wear them, but Xiaoqian wears hers with style. Her monochromatic outfit is an ideal base for her bold jade necklace.
2. Black & White Colorblocked Tote
This colorblocked, striped tote is the key to carrying all of Xiaoqian’s grad school essentials. It’s lightweight and the red detailing on it gives her outfit a bold pop of color.
3. Windowpane Trousers
All closets must have a pair of patterned pants. Running late? Throw on your patterned pants with a basic tee. They are a great way to effortlessly look stylish without any thought.
