Fall is that season where clothing and makeup transition to showcase darker tones, luxurious textures, and intense pigments.

It’s interesting how during fall, you have that rare scenario where many people adopt the same general uniform for the season: cozy sweater + jeans + boots in warm tones. Makes me kind of think there’s a secret memo that gets sent out to everyone and lets them know what’s up.

Regardless, it’s interesting to see so many people get on the same fashion page, since personal styles vary dramatically throughout the population. Makeup tends to follow a similar pattern this time of year. Certain tones and pairings for eye and lip combinations become incredibly predictable.

Let me interject with a quick aside here: While makeup is always a great tool to showcase your individual style, don’t let that stop you from following well-loved makeup trends that can sometimes be considered “basic” or “overdone.”

Wear your makeup however you want, and don’t let anyone stop you!

Truthfully it’s the well-loved trends followed by most people that most often end up looking amazing on the face. Sorry, aside/rant over.

Anyway, back to fall makeup trends! This season’s makeup looks are dotted with trademark colors like burgundy, plum, and forest green, and these shades are often combined with neutrals to give makeup looks that warm, but smoky feel.

Here are four of the most distinct “Fall Makeup” look components, combined with product recommendations to help you look ready for fall!

Burgundy Eyeshadow:

Products: Kat Von D Eyeshadow in Raw Power – Sephora, MAC Eyeshadow in I’m Into It – MAC, NYX Eyeshadow in Flustered – NYX

Deep, burgundy eyeshadow is underrated when it comes to makeup. Everybody immediately goes for a burgundy lip color when fall hits, but this shade can be just as alluring on the eyes. This shade can work as a neutral or a bold pop of color, so it’s versatile with any style!

Give your eyes that dramatic kick with the Kat Von D Raw Power eyeshadow, the MAC I’m Into It shadow, or the NYX eyeshadow in Flustered.

Intense Lashes:

Products: L’oreal Lash Paradise Mascara – Target, Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara – Sephora, Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara – Sephora

Even though burgundy eyeshadow already makes the eyes look dramatic, don’t forget the power of lashes! Generally for fall-ready lashes, the more dramatic, the better.

Use mascaras like the L’oreal Lash Paradise Mascara, the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara, or the new Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara. These guys will give you beautiful fanned-out, black lashes that hold their own against any other makeup you might wear.

Golden Highlighter:

Products: Jouer Highlighter in Skinny Dip – Jouer | Ofra Highlighter in Blissful – Ofra | Makeup Geek Highlighter in Luster – Makeup Geek

Highlighter is by no means a “fall only” product, but the changing leaves outside and the deeper warm colors that pop up in fall clothing provide a great backdrop to make that highlighter stand out.

Give yourself an autumn-ready face by popping a soft golden or ivory highlighter on the cheekbones. Three great options are the the Jouer Highlighter in Skinny Dip, the Ofra Highlighter in Blissful, and the Makeup Geek Highlighter in Luster.

Vampy Lipstick:

Products: Maybelline Ink Lipstick in Believer and Escapist – Target | Loreal Matte Paints Lipstick in Cinna-Bomb – Ulta | Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Pretty Auburn – Sephora

Last but not least, what would a fall makeup look be without a vampy lip? Oxblood, plum, and brown lip colors come out to play during fall, and with tons of new formulas out there to try, it’s like an entirely new world of lipsticks just waiting to be explored!

Refresh this trend by upgrading to a new lipstick formula. Lipsticks like the Maybelline Ink Lipstick in Believer and Escapist, the L’Oreal Matte Paint Lipstick in Cinna-bomb, and the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Pretty Auburn will do the trick!
