Anything for Selenas!

It’s been 22 years since the tragic death of iconic Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla. It’s also been 20 years since her amazing biopic which marked the breakout role for Jennifer Lopez.

Selena has inspired millions of people and today, she will finally be receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (It’s about time!)

Not only did Selena have an outstanding voice, she was also a style icon. She took risks with her fashion and started many trends that we still wear today. In honor of her Walk of Fame star, today we will be breaking down that iconic Selena Quintanilla style, recreating Selena’s best outfits and showing you how to wear them.

Before we begin, enjoy this Google Doodle celebrating Selena’s life.

Selena Quintanilla Style Outfit #1 – Baila Esta Cumbia

Selena looks amazing in this outfit! In this video, she performs her hit “Baila Esta Cumbia”.

This outfit is special thanks to Selena’s bralette (it’s a bustier!) and decorative gold chain. It’s nice to see bralettes back in style. The main focus of this outfit is the black and gold color combination, a Selena favorite.

Products: Lace Bralette – Missguided, Flare Pants – Amazon, Lipstick – MAC, Bracelet – Amazon, Chain Belt – River Island, Drop Earrings – Boohoo

To recreate this outfit today (it would be so fun for a night out!), start off with black pants, tied at the waist with a gold chain belt. Put on a bralette and add more gold with earrings and a chain bracelet, like the one she is seen wearing.

Finish your outfit with a lipstick from Selena’s MAC collection. Although MAC doesn’t sell her collection anymore, there are still some in stock on Amazon.

This racy outfit is ideal for a girl’s night or a night out dancing.

Selena Quintanilla Style Outfit #2 – Bidi Bidi Bom Bom

This outfit, seen in the video for Selena’s top hit “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” (one of my personal favorites) is textbook 1990s. Her outfit is laid-back and elegant. It’s perfect for stroll in the park. What I love about this outfit are her cropped denim vest and floral skirt.

Products: Denim Vest – Forever 21, Crop Tee – Boohoo, Sandals – Chinese Laundry, Maxi Skirt – Charlotte Russe, Choker – Forever 21

This outfit, despite being inspired by a look that’s 20 years old, appears completely modern since the ’90s are back!

Start with a floral maxi skirt, white crop top, and denim vest. Add a black choker with a locket. (Selena wore them before they were cool.) Finish your outfit with simple white sandals, just like Selena wears in the video.

Selena Quintanilla Style Outfit #3 – Selena: Live at the Houston Astrodome

This outfit breaks my heart a little because it’s from her last live televised concert before her tragic death in 1995. She once again turned heads with her outfit. This purple glitter jumpsuit was so memorable that it was inducted into her museum in Texas.

You may also recognize this look for another reason: It’s a popular halloween costume. It was recently worn by America Ferrera, Demi Lovato, and Kim Kardashian, all of whom pulled it off flawlessly.

Products: Pants – NA-KD, Halter Top – LOFT, Earrings – Amazon, Heels – Charlotte Russe, Lipstick – MAC

To channel Selena’s purple jumpsuit, it’s important to get creative. No, you probably can’t buy her exact jumpsuit unless you’re going for a costume, but you can recreate it in a modern way for your next night out.

Start off your outfit with these purple glitter flare pants. Channel the strappy part of her jumpsuit with a purple halter top in a different shade of purple. Play with silver with these heels and drop earrings, then complete your look with a red lip shade, specifically Selena’s Como La For lipstick from her MAC collection.
