The stylish villain we all loved to hate..and now kind of just love.

I recently made the ill-advised decision to start watching Jane the Virgin. Ill-advised, because once I started watching, I just couldn’t stop. (Those telenovela cliffhangers will get ya!) Not only does the show offer romance (both sweet and, well, smoldering), nail-biting drama, and plenty of laughs, it also features some incredible fashion looks.

Katy previously covered how to get protagonist Jane Villanueva’s signature style. While I obviously love Jane (she’s basically a saint), one of my favorite characters has to be Petra Solano (played by Yael Grobglas), the manipulative ex-wife of Rafael (the guy whose sperm Jane accidentally gets inseminated with).

Although Petra comes off as an ice-cold, snobby, and conniving rhymes-with-witch (although once you meet her awful mother Magda, you kind of get why she’s the way she is), she’s a very capable businesswoman and turns out to have a vulnerable side. Some of the best comedy in the show arises from how awkward the normally poised Petra becomes when she tries to be nice. On top of all that, Petra’s style is totally killer.

Petra is often underestimated by other characters, perhaps because her soft, feminine style belies her razor sharp intellect and fierce attitude. She favors classic pieces like sheath dresses and well-tailored blazers, but in pastel or jewel tones and in drapey fabrics that hug her body. She’s also got an impressive collection of rompers and tailored shorts. No matter what, she always looks incredibly polished, with perfectly coiffed hair.

According to WornOnTV, Petra’s wardrobe comes from higher-end brands like Ted Baker, Club Monaco, Vince, French Connection, Cynthia Vincent, and BCBGMaxAzria. Here’s how you can get that Miami millionaire hotelier look without spending like Petra!

Look 1

Products: Blazer, Top, Shorts, Shoes, BraceletSatchel

“Dressy” and “shorts” don’t usually go together, but Petra makes it work! Start with a pair of tailored shorts (avoid denim, linen, or khaki, since those are more casual fabrics) preferably with a fun pattern or cute details like a scalloped hem. Next, add a draped top or even a simple cami, then put on a pastel blazer. Minimalist sandals and a structured satchel round out the look, while a tassel cuff adds just the right amount of bling.

Products: Top, Skirt, Heels, Cardigan, EarringsSatchel

This is a look Petra might wear for a meeting; while it might not fly in the off-screen corporate world, it’s a versatile look that could work for a business casual setting or a fancy brunch. Pair a floral georgette blouse with a delicate lace pencil skirt for a polished, feminine look. Since there’s a lot going on with the pattern mixing, keep your accessories simple with a pair of beige slingbacks and a matching satchel. Drop earrings in a neutral color are eye catching but won’t distract from the rest of the outfit.

Look 3

Products: Green Romper, Pink Dress, Print Dress, Peach Romper, Blue Dress

Finally, here’s a roundup of dresses and rompers that I think Petra would love! Best of all, they all cost less than $55, considerably less than the ones she wears on screen!

One brand that really fits Petra’s aesthetic (but isn’t included here) is BB Dakota. You can find a lot of their dresses on sale on Amazon for less than $40! It’s one of my personal favorites for trendy, tasteful dresses that don’t break the bank.

What did you think?

Would you wear these outfits? Do you watch Jane the Virgin? Do you love Petra as much as I do? Let me know in the comments!
