Unexpected Style Inspiration: Money
When Carrie Bradshaw said “I like my money right where I can see it… hanging in my closet,” she was speaking figuratively (and straight to my soul).
But what if she wasn’t? What if she liked to see money hanging where her clothes were?
Granted, that’s a bit bizarre – you’d need some mighty small clothes hangers to hang up all your bills.
However, there are other ways to take the Carrie’s wise words a bit more literally. I mean, if you’re going to spend money on an outfit, may as well show off that money well spent by taking inspiration from the cold hard dollar that made your purchase possible.
1. Copper
Products: Shoes, Bag, Palette, Watch, Jeans, Top
Although they may be of little value, you sure can’t deny that pennies are pretty. Copper, bronze, and rose gold hues are some of my favorites – I tend to wear more of this color than golds or silvers. Metallics are a huge trend right now, so for your next night out go hard on the copper with this mixed metal ensemble.
2. Silver
Products: Dress, Metal Belt, Nail Polish, Earrings, Bag, Boots
I really love this metallic dress. I think I’m part magpie: Any time I see something shiny, I need to have it. So take inspiration from silver coins by pairing this dress with metal accessories, like this amazing metal belt and these coin-inspired earrings.
3. Gold
Products: Dress, Sandals, Bag, Sunglasses, Rings
Now, I don’t know how many gold bars you have lying about (I have 0, unsurprisingly), but it’s always fun to dream, right?
If, like me, the closest you’re ever going to get to a gold bar is the wrapping paper on a bar of chocolate, you can still be inspired by the banks and rock a gold outfit. This khaki dress with gold coin detail is a nice nod to bills as well as coins. Since the detail is quite small, carry the theme through with these cute sandals, add some gold accessories, and there you have it! Worthy of a place in Gringotts.
What do you think?
Do you like these looks? Would you wear them? What’s the most expensive item of clothing you own (I’m nosey)? Let’s hear your 2 cents in the comments – hey, that kind of rhymed!
