5 Morning Routine Ideas to Start Your Days Off Right
To brighter mornings and more productive days.
Every girl’s college morning routine has the same formula: wake up, brush our teeth, change and leave for classes. Simple and easy to do.
Mornings routines, however, deserve a little more attention than we give them: Your morning influences the rest of our day, so having a good routine to follow is essential!
Here are a few ideas for what to do in the morning before class to help start your day on the best possible note:
Getting out of bed is hard. We just want to stay lying down and do nothing but stare at our blank ceiling. (You know you can relate.)
Instead of full on cardio in the morning, doing a bit of stretching after a long night of being motionless is a great way to relieve your muscles. You don’t even have to get out of bed to stretch! What’s better than that?
Here are some stretches to do in the morning, via Popsugar.
Make Your Bed
Your bed makes up a big part of how your overall room looks. especially in college when it’s often the focus of your space. Your desk and floors may be tidy but if your bed looks like a mess, the aura of organization in your room has been ruined.
Coming back to a bed that looks neat and orderly makes you feel like being more organized and productive. When you come back to a messy bed with your pajamas and laptop strewn across it, you’re a lot more likely to laze around because your room is already a mess.
Plus, who doesn’t like coming back from a long day to a clean bed?
Drink a Big Glass of Water
After eight hours without hydration, a big glass of water is exactly what your body needs. Drinking a glass of water first thing is a great habit to get into.
Instead of plain water, adding raw honey and lemon juice to warm water is a great mini-cleanse to start your day. Honey, being a antioxidant, helps boost your immune system, while lemon is a great source of vitamin C!
Actually Eat Breakfast
Breakfast is important, we all know this. But do we actually eat it every day? Ehh, not really…
Waking up early in the morning is hard enough, but putting in the effort to make breakfast as well can be tough.
One of the reasons why we don’t eat breakfast is because we think we don’t have enough time. So it’s good to plan your breakfasts ahead of time and stay away from anything you have to cook or wash.
Try mixing greek yogurt, oats and your favorite fruits together in a jar and you’re good to go! You could also plan ahead and do make-ahead breakfast sandwiches.
Check the News
Knowing what’s going on in the world around us is important. Getting a daily dose of what’s happening in the news, whether it’s national or international, keeps us up to date on current events.
If you’re not much of a newspaper person, listening to news podcasts (we like NPR’s Up First) or watching videos on YouTube about the news is just as informational!
Put on Sunscreen
Whoever said sunscreen was only for summer was dead wrong.
Wearing sunscreen daily is an important step people tend to forget or only do when the sun is out. UV rays penetrates our skin even when we don’t see them on cloudy days!
Some things to ask yourself for when buying a daily sunscreen are:
- Is it broad-spectrum/full spectrum? (It should protect against both UVA and UVB rays.)
- Is it at least SPF 30?
If you feel like the sunscreen is too thick or leaves an unflattering white-cast on your face, try a liquid gel sunscreen! This one from Sephora smooths over your skin without it feeling like you have anything on! Also, see our post on how to sneak sunscreen into your beauty routine.
