Style Challenge: A Week of Neutrals

Can you dress only in neutral colors for a whole week?

I love to incorporate fun colors into my outfits, especially as we’re approaching spring. Almost every ensemble I put together is based around bright pieces! While color is obviously so fun to incorporate into fashion, I find myself forgetting how chic and versatile neutral pieces can be.

This week, I decided to try to wear only neutral colors for a whole week. I included black, brown, gray, and white as my neutral colors, but you can adjust to best fit your wardrobe. See my looks below for some inspiration.

Monday

Products: Dress – Piko, Scarf – Impressions Boutique, Bracelets – Target, Booties – Target

I based this look around a basic black tee-shirt dress: It looks so comfy for a winter Monday! I added this plaid scarf which contrasts with the dress a little but still ties in with the black. To pull it all together, I added some tan and black beaded bracelets and some fringe black booties.

Tuesday

Products: Top – Target, Leggings – Impressions Boutique, Boots – Impressions Boutique, Necklace – Monday Dress

I started this outfit with these adorable tan suede leggings. I love the texture these add to the look. I paired them with a cream peplum top and this unique tassel necklace in several different neutral colors. To finish it off, I added some brown leather boots a few shades darker than the leggings.

I think this outfit would be so comfy for a work/school day and still looks so put-together. It’s the best of both worlds.

Wednesday

Products: Sweater – Red Dress Boutique, Dress – Impressions Boutique, Shoes – Red Dress Boutique

For this outfit, I wanted to focus on white for winter. While we all know white is traditionally more of a summer color, you can totally make it work for the colder months. I paired this white sweater with a white fit-and-flare dress and some nude flats for a really cute, feminine look that will still keep you warm. The best part is that all three pieces can be worn after it warms up, too!

Thursday

Products: Top – Red Dress Boutique, Jeans – American Eagle, Coat – Red Dress Boutique, Scarf – Impressions Boutique, Flats – Target

I based this outfit around this classic coat in a gorgeous shade of gray. I paired it with black skinny jeans, a plain long-sleeve white tee, and a black fringe scarf. I added some plain black flats to tie it all together. Easy, simple, comfy, warm… what’s not to love about this look?

Friday

Products: Dress – Monday Dress, Tights – Target, Boots – Red Dress Boutique, Earrings – Charming Charlie, Bracelet – Charming Charlie

For Friday, I chose this on-trend criss-cross neckline dress. I added some over-the-knee boots and dark gray tights so you’ll be ready for class or for going out with friends: I love the ombre look the dress tights and boots create! To accessorize, I chose some rose gold and gray earrings and a matching rose gold bangle.

Saturday

Products: Dress – Impressions Boutique, Jacket – Forever 21, Heels – Target, Earrings – Charming Charlie

I started this look with this chic black velvet dress that’s perfect for a fun night out with the girls. I paired it with a leather jacket for an interesting contrast in texture. I added some black heels and silver hoop earrings to bring this slightly edgy, slightly romantic outfit together.

Sunday

Products: Dress – Forever 21, Half Slip – Altar’d State, Boots – Forever 21, Socks – Impressions Boutique

For the last day of the challenge, I started with a taupe swing dress and added a lace half-slip in a similar shade. This adds some beautiful texture at the hem of the dress. Next, I added tan boot socks and dark brown boots. The boots contrast really well with the rest of the pieces, creating an unexpected take on the monochrome trend.
