Sunday Morning Cartoons: Outfits Inspired By Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo! Where are you?!

We’re back with Sunday Morning Cartoons! Welcome to a trip down nostalgia lane as we draw fashion inspiration from an unlikely source – our favorite old school cartoons.

Our last two installments of this series featured Totally Spies and Kim Possible. We’re continuing the spy-like theme with a gang of mystery-solving teenagers:

Yup, we’re doing Scooby Doo outfits this week. (Bonus: We love the idea of Scooby Doo costumes, so these outfits would work for Halloween with a few tweaks!)

Scooby-Doo is an American cartoon franchise chock full of catchphrases. The original series has spawned several spin-offs. The mysteries they solve are tinged with supernatural hints, which is fun for fans of all ages.

There are five main characters. They’re all friends with equal amounts of screen time (and catch phrases!) despite acting as foils to each other:

The eponymous character is Scooby, a talking Great Dane dog with a love for Scooby Snacks and his friends. Shaggy is Scooby’s best friend and is depicted as a chill guy who would much rather be eating at any given moment. Fred is the calm leader of the group and driver of the Mystery Machine who also has a tendency to believe in fantasy creatures. Daphne is the fashionable member who grows in confidence and butt kicking abilities throughout the series. Velma is a caring sarcastic genius with a habit of losing her glasses a lot. “My glasses. I can’t find my glasses.”

Outfits Inspired By Scooby-Doo

Be a meddling kid in these outfits.

Fred Inspired Outfit (Let’s split up, gang)

Products: Shirtdress – Nordstrom Rack, Blazer – Buckle, Loafers – ASOS

Fred is a put-together dude who likes to rock a blue and white color palette. Copy his color scheme and love for collars with a striped shirtdress. Update his ascot and penchant for layers with an orange blazer. Lead your own group and pound the pavement with nude patent leather loafers.

Velma Inspired Outfit (Jinkies)

Products: Top – Forever 21, Skirt – ModCloth (and similar skirt here), Tights – ModCloth, Flats – Charlotte Russe

Velma is sensible – but not any less stylish than Daphne, her counterpart. A light orange mock turtleneck crop top pairs like Velma-and-book with a pleated red skirt. Her sharp wit deserves equally pointed strappy flats, a modernized version of Mary Jane flats. She protects her knees when crawling on the floor for her glasses and you should too with mustard colored tights.

Scooby Inspired Outfit (Scooby dooby doo!)

Products: Tank – American Eagle, Jacket – Buckle, Jeans – Nordstrom Rack, Sneakers – YOOX, Necklace – Betsey Johnson

Scooby may be a scaredy-dog but he knows to stash away some Scooby Snacks for courage. Put your own good luck charms in a khaki jacket and aqua jeans. A black tank top and light green sneakers serve as accents. A gold enamel pendant necklace shoutouts Scooby’s collar and love for dogs’ happy personalities.

Shaggy Inspired Outfit (Zoinks!)

Products: Tank – Gap, Trousers – New Look, Booties – Kohl’s

Shaggy is a goofball. Be a more polished Shaggy with a green swing tank top and tie-waist trousers. This combo is perfect for athletic and appetite-satiating endeavors alike. Grey booties help you ferret out both monsters and relaxing fun.

Daphne Inspired Outfit (Creepers!)

Products: Top – Buckle, Skirt – River Island, Bracelet – BlingJewelry, Flats – Macy’s

Daphne would be all over matchy-matchy colorblocking. The flared denim skirt is durable but also fashion-sensitive just like her. She’s a quick thinker with her accessories so wear a green cuff as your signature accessory. A fan of subtle sophistication, Daphne would love d’Orsay flats with flair.

Have you ever seen this show?

The “Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island” movie was pretty memorable for me. What was your favorite episode? Who was your favorite character?
