Here are 12 creative last-minute Halloween costume ideas you can easily pull off and maybe even win a costume contest or two with. Who said procrastination always has to be a bad thing? For even more Halloween costume inspiration check out these articles by my fellow CF writers!
1. Thing One & Thing Two
Products: Red Dress, Red Heels, Blue Hair Chalk, Blue Headband
Channel your inner mischievous child by dressing up as Thing One or Thing Two for Halloween. This costume can be pulled off with just a few items. Put on your favorite red dress and print out or draw a circular sign with either “Thing 1” or “Thing 2” on it.
You can emulate Thing One and Thing Two’s vibrant blue hair with hair chalk (if you’re feeling fancy) or a blue headband. Round out the look with red or black heels and you’re all set! Also, consider recruiting one of your friends to be your partner in crime for this dynamic duo.
2. Peter Pan
Products: Green Dress, Peter Pan Bag, Brown Belt, Brown Tights, Riding Boots, Peter Pan Hat
Peter Pan was always one of my favorite movies when I was growing up, and now that I’m older and it’s less socially acceptable to play dress up every day, Halloween is the perfect opportunity to pretend to be this Disney hero for a night.
Pair a green dress with a brown belt, patterned brown tights, and riding boots from your closet. For the finishing touch, check out this tutorial from Its A Lisa to DIY a simple Peter Pan hat. The supplies will cost you $5 or less and will take just 20 minutes to make. (Or you can buy the one linked above, your choice!)
3. Mary Poppins
Products: Black Umbrella, Black Hat, Red Bow, Black Tights, White Button Up, Black Heels, Black Skirt
Mary Poppins is a total classic, and if you love the classics, this might be the perfect costume for you this year. The beauty of this ensemble is that you can use basics you likely already own: a simple black skater skirt and white button-up form the foundation of this costume.
What really brings this costume to life is the accessories: a black fedora, a red bow tie, an umbrella, fishnets, and black heels or flats will have you feeling just like Julie Andrews.
4. Belle
Products: White Button Up, Black Flats, Blue Bow, Blue Dress
Can you tell I have a thing for Disney movies? If you’ve always secretly (or not so secretly) wanted to be a Disney princess, then this might just be the costume for you. Belle’s iconic outfit from Beauty and the Beast is easy to recreate.
Layer a blue dress over a white button-up, tie your hair back with a blue bow, throw on some flats, and carry around a few novels to complete the look. Bonus points if you can find someone to dress up as the Beast with you!
5. Little Red Riding Hood

A fairytale favorite, Little Red Riding Hood is a classic yet often overlooked costume. Since almost every girl owns at least one LBD, this costume can be thrown together very quickly.
Pair your favorite black dress with a red infinity scarf looped over your head to create a makeshift hood. Hit up the dollar store for a cheap basket (Tip: use the basket as a purse if you’re going out!) and wear some optional knee highs with heels to dress it up even more.
6. Beanie Baby
Products: Zebra Dress, Black Dress, Leopard Ears, Eyeliner, Leopard Dress, Cat Ears
Do you remember Beanie Babies? Also, raise your hand if you’ve got an old cat, zebra, tiger, leopard, etc. costume laying around unused in your closet. Chances are you probably do, and if you don’t, you probably have some sort of animal print clothing in your wardrobe.
This Halloween, repurpose your costume to be everyone’s favorite ’90s stuffed animal. Put on your animal print, add some animal ears, draw on whiskers and a nose with black eyeliner, then cut a red heart out of construction paper with the letters “TY” on it to wear around your neck or taped to your outfit.
7. Morton Salt Girl

If you love vintage style, the Morton Salt Girl costume is right up your alley. The Morton Salt brand has been sporting the iconic young girl dressed in yellow on their products for 100 years now. You probably even have a container of Morton salt with her on it in your pantry right now.
To create this costume, pair a yellow dress with white knee-high socks, ankle boots (or Mary-Janes if you have them), and an umbrella. Carry around a container of Morton salt to complete the look.
8. Regina George
Products: White Tank, Black Skirt, Purple Cami, Black Heels, Purple Bra
Name one person who doesn’t love Mean Girls. I dare you. While there are countless Halloween costume ideas inspired by the movie, one of the simplest has to be from the scene where Regina George wears a tank top with two holes cut into it, instantly starting a school-wide fashion trend.
To recreate the look, carefully cut out two small holes on a white tank top (Tip: use a marker to draw it out before cutting to make it symmetrical) and pair it with a purple cami or bra underneath. Add a short skirt and heels, and you’ll be transformed into the one and only Regina George. Bonus points if you can whip out Regina George quotes all night!
9. Superwoman in Disguise
Products: Black Pencil Skirt, White Button Up, Black Suspenders, Superman Tie Crop Top, Black Glasses, Black Heels
This Halloween you’ll see plenty of Supermans and Wonder Womans, but a fresh new take on this costume standby can add an air of mystery. Think reporter by day, and Superwoman by night. Pulling off this incognito Superwoman look is simple.
Wear your favorite professional attire (think button-ups and pencil skirts) with a Superman shirt peeking out. If you don’t have a Superman shirt in your closet, consider making one with iron-on transfer paper. Finally, you can accessorize with fake glasses and suspenders if you so choose.
10. Despicable Me Minion
Products: Yellow Bandeau, Minion Headband, Minion Plush, Jean Shorts, Black Suspenders, Black Headband
The minions from Despicable Me are irresistibly cute, and thus make the perfect costume for anyone who is a fan of the movie. To transform into a minion, pair a yellow bandeau or top with jean shorts. Add a pair of black suspenders and goggles to complete the look.
If you don’t have goggles, you could fashion your own minion-esque headband, as pictured above, or even cut paper cups in half and attach them to a black knit headband to look like eye goggles. The options for this costume are numerous and all very DIY friendly, so you can use whatever you already have laying around. Get creative!
11. A Stick of Gum
Products: Hair Chalk, Heels, Pink Dress, Headband, Flip Flop, Pink Wig, Bubble Yum
A stick of bubble gum is a super easy costume idea, especially if you happen to own a lot of pink items. Just rock all pink and attach a flip flop to a headband (left over from the poor soul who stepped on you) — bam, you’re bubble gum!
If you really want to go all out for this costume, borrow a pink wig from another costume or just invest in some cheap hair chalk to turn your hair bubble gum-toned. Don’t forget to carry around a pack of Bubble Yum for extra effect!
12. Princess Leia
Products: White Long Sleeve Dress, Sleeveless White Dress, Black Belt
Last but not least is the nerdiest (but equally as awesome) costume on this list – Princess Leia. Everyone who’s ever seen Star Wars knows about Princess Leia’s signature double bun hairstyle. It’s already instantly recognizable, and with the help of a white dress and black belt you’ll be the talk of the party.
