My Top 3 Fashion Essentials for Long-Haul Travel

When you’re stuck in your seat for hours at a time, comfort is key.

Recently, I had the spectacular privilege of seeing the entire East Coast of America via train. On my day-long Amtrak ride from northern Florida to rural Pennsylvania, not only was I able to see the states in a new way, but I also got to test out which travel outfits worked—and, equally importantly, which ones didn’t.

Aside from learning the basics of travel etiquette and personal maintenance, my trip helped me distinguish the fashion non-essentials from the true travel must-haves. Earrings, for instance? Fussy, and they get in the way of your sleep. Blankets? YES. Always yes.

So, to impart you with the full culmination of my travel knowledge, I present the three things you NEED for long-haul travel. Keep reading for three products sets for the budding adventurer, and bon voyage!

These Boots Were Made for Sitting

When it comes to long-haul travel, comfort is key. I recommend that you go with a sturdy pair of boots for your trip. These don’t have to be hideous – there are tons of cute and comfortable options out there, like the picks above.

Take it from me: If you opt for something cute but less comfy, you’ll undergo hours of sitting with shoes that pinch your feet—that is, until you finally pluck up the courage to eschew the footwear altogether and go with fuzzy knit socks instead. After all, when you’re confined to a limited space and a limited audience (no, paparazzi cameras won’t follow you around the airport), your best bet is to get as comfy as possible.

Baby, It’s Cold Inside

Cardigans and pullover sweaters and capes, oh my!

Whether it’s light and summer-y or exceptionally thick for the coming winter months, a cozy sweater or wrap is key for long journeys.

I love that there’s so much diversity and variation in this category: You never have to sacrifice your sense of style for comfort or the much-beloved “snuggle” factor: you can have it all. Do your own thing, so long as it keeps you warm!

Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Leggings

As much as most of us gals love a cute skirt or dress, a long journey deserves a nice pair of fashion-forward leggings.

Aside from the lack of scratchiness you’ll experience on board (tight jeans for 8+ hours = misery), leggings are specially outfitted for comfort. They’re gorgeously no-fuss, and they’re perfect for trips when you don’t even want to think about complicated things like front zippers or side buttons—or any other fancy contraptions that get in the way of your comfort and rest.

Thoughts?

Have you ever taken a long train, plane, or car ride? What did you wear on said journey? What do you think of the traveling style sets? CF wants to hear your comments!
