When you think of fanny packs, current fashion may not be the first thing that comes to mind. Lately, however, I’ve been spotting this once passed-over accessory on some of Hollywood’s biggest fashion influencers, such as Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Kendall Jenner.

While this ’90s-throwback trend may seem hard to pull off for everyday wear, it’s actually not as hard as you think. What’s more, this time around, fanny packs aren’t just for wearing around your hips or waist; plenty of fashionistas carry them as you would a shoulder or cross-body bag, making taking the plunge a little less intimidating.

Due to their compact size and ease of wear, fanny packs are also great for wearing with other larger bags or backpacks, making them the perfect thing to wear to class, and also for traveling.

Need inspiration on how to pull off this versatile trend? Keep scrolling to see three looks that show you how to wear fanny packs in a modern and fashion-forward way.

Fanny Pack Outfit #1

Products: Sweater – H&M, Pants – Everlane, Earrings – Mango, Cuff – Karen London, Fanny Pack – Century 21, Ankle Boots – H&M, Lip Balm – Glossier, Nail Polish – Kester Black, Necklace – Mango

A rose gold metallic fanny pack fits right in with this quirky and cheerful look, which also happens to be perfect for wearing during the Winter-Spring transitional period.

As for the outfit itself, put on a fun burgundy, red, and hot pink striped sweater; next, add some super-trendy coral cropped wide-leg pants.

Since this look is so bold, I chose to pair it with some white heeled ankle boots (another current trend) that make a statement without clashing with the rest of the outfit.

Add some bold white earrings, a luxe lapis cuff bracelet, and a unique long necklace, and paint your nails a pretty shade of lilac. Lastly, apply some shimmery lip balm (my personal pick is Birthday Balm Dotcom from Glossier), and you’re ready to go!

Fanny Pack Outfit #2

Products: Blouse – Nordstrom, Flats – Madewell, Jeans – H&M, Earrings – Shopbop, Ring – Nordstrom, Cuff – Madewell, Fanny Pack – American Eagle

For a softer, slightly boho spring look, go for a rosy cognac brown fanny pack with fringe and brass hardware.

Style it with a pretty off-the-shoulder blouse, with a cinched waist that allows you the option of wearing the fanny pack at your waist for a super-flattering look.

Put on some destroyed light-wash jeans for some contrast, and add a pair of pale lilac slingback flats for a feminine touch.

As far as I’m concerned, hoop earrings plus off-the-shoulder anything is always a winning combo, which is why I chose this delicate twisted pair. A gold cuff bracelet with pink fringe and a classy starburst ring round out this cute look.

Fanny Pack Outfit #3

Products: Overall Dress – Nordstrom, T-Shirt – Topshop, Socks – Topshop, Brogues – Zara, Earrings – Lord & Taylor, Bracelet – Nordstrom, Choker – Blue and Cream, Fanny Pack – Urban Outfitters

For the final outfit, I chose a sunny golden-yellow quilted fanny pack.

For a truly ’90s-inspired look, wear the fanny pack on top of a denim overall dress layered over a ruffled short-sleeved t-shirt. Next, put on a pair of gray socks with hearts and add brogues with fun ombré soles.

A pair of adorable flower stud earrings, a cool friendship bracelet, and a beautiful and unique moonstone choker necklace are all you need to complete the ensemble.
