Clean and polished meets wild and free in this week’s Weekly Crossover. Both styles have great pieces to chose from and mix together!

My inspiration for this crossover was Avril Lavigne in the Sk8er Boy video and Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl Season One, because back to school time is the perfect opportunity for a middle school style throwback.

Look 1: Shirt + Tie

Products: Shirt, Tie, Watch, PantsShoes

Let’s start with two pieces that work for both styles. A tie and blouse can actually work for both preppy and punky looks – pretty cool, right? Ripped jeans give you a laid back, rocker-chic vibe – now all you need is your skateboard.

Now let’s talk extras. You can chose to wear sneakers with this look or swap in these oxfords, an essential element of the preppy girl’s wardrobe. Watches are definitely preppy as well, particularly plain and simple ones like these. Add a tailored blazer to this outfit for a school uniform vibe. You could also rock a preppy hair piece like one of Blair’s trademark headbands.

Look 2: Dress + Sneakers

Products: Backpack, Hat, Dress, Lipstick, Shoes

This is a fun end-of-summer/beginning-of-fall look. Start with an ultra preppy and pretty floral sundress. Then subtract the heels and add sneakers (especially flashy sneakers like these), to give the frock a fun and playful look. Carry your school things in your backpack and wear a beanie and a matte lip to complete this style mashup.

Look 3: Skirt + Flannel

Products: Shirt, Skirt, Socks, Boots, Hat

This look is the most extreme of the three, incorporating bold pieces from both ends of the style spectrum. The tall socks and skirt are inspired by a school uniform, while the patchwork flannel shirt and hat are all skater girl.

You can wear ballet flats with this look, though I opted for cool lace-up ankle booties for a mix of preppy and tough. Tuck the flannel into the skirt to make it more girly or open up the flannel and wear whatever you want underneath – your choice. If it’s cold out, add a hoodie for a final dash of edge.

What did you think of this crossover?
