Runway Looks for Less: Moschino Resort 2017

Make a statement on a budget by channelling Jeremy Scott’s latest collection.

I shouldn’t love Moschino’s 2017 Resort collection as much as I do. I have a lot of clothing (which I recently realized as I started packing for a move), and the vast majority of my clothes are plain and/or black. But yet, here I am, obsessed with the bright and bold colors and patterns of this collection.

Designer Jeremy Scott is known for being the King of Kitsch, if you will. My favorite example being the Fresh Couture fragrance bottle shaped like a cleaning spray. Amazing. His designs definitely favor the “more is more” approach and are always incredibly unique.

So, when it came to this week’s Runway Looks for Less, I thought I’d struggle. Reason one being that the Moschino look is so unusual, and reason two being that it was a bit out of my comfort zone in terms of colors and patterns. However, I found myself really loving the looks and I hope you will, too! Rather than finding flat out replicas of the outfits (which would be near impossible and probably impractical), I took inspiration from them and made them more wearable and affordable, whilst still keeping that fun Moschino feel.

1. Patterned Crochet Dress

There’s so much color and pattern involved in this look it might as well be a kaleidoscope. To replicate it, start with this amazing patchwork crochet dress, and add an equally patterned bag. This holdall one would be perfect for a beach day (if you live somewhere where that’s a thing, I’m eternally jealous.) A patterned hat might be a bit too much, so I went with this cute yellow hat instead. Add black sandals with some colored detail, some yellow-tinted sunglasses, and plenty of bracelets, and voila! A more tame version of a look that for some reason gives me major Dr. Seuss vibes.

2. Striped Pencil Skirt

The first look made me think of Dr. Seuss and this one reminds me of Spongebob. I can’t tell if this is intentional (those flowers are definitely Bob-esque) or I’m just trying to revert back to my childhood. Probably both.

Anyway, to get this look, pair a striped midi skirt with a very on-trend tie detail crop top – I love the color of the one I’ve included in this outfit! The trick to wearing all these colors at once is making sure there’s at least some sense of coordination. For example, the skirt may have yellow detail and the shoes may have pink detail, but as they’re both predominantly blue, it’s not too overwhelming.

3. Elephant sweatshirt

I love this last look purely because elephants are my favorite animal and I’m always here for elephant-printed clothing

To make this look more wearable, I swapped the platforms for ordinary Converse. However, my absolute favorite part of this outfit has to be this amazing mirrored, embellished, pom-pom belt. It’s spectacular and I’ve been lusting over it for weeks now. It makes this otherwise plain, casual outfit a bit more Moschino-esque.
